The Death of John Lennon

Today is the 25th anniversary of John Lennon's death at the hands of Mark David Chapman.

As the Associated Press describes it:

"Twenty-five years ago, on Dec. 8, 1980, John Lennon was shot to death outside his New York City apartment building by an apparently deranged fan."

To commemorate this sad occassion, and to annoy my buddy Victor, I'm taking another poll:

Which statement is the most accurate?
John Lennon was murdered.
John Lennon was assassinated.

Anybody besides me notice how the anniversary of John F. Kennedy's assassination (11/22/1963) didn't get quite so much attention by the media this time around? Seems like John Lennon's assassination got more play this year. Was John Lennon murdered or assassinated? Good question. I don't know. Let's just dig out Mark David Chapman, along with Sirhan Sirhan, and ask them again, shall we? They're both still still languishing in prison, aren't they? And they're just crazy kooks... nutcases... "loners... acting alone..." We've already heard what James Earl Ray had to say... if anyone was really even listening.

But JFK --- now, there's a freakin' martyr for you. But, oh, no, he was just another rich guy. Just look how the "liberal-controlled press" treats him now, with their specious rumors about Jack stroking Marilyn Monroe (what a crime!), unproven, but still given credence, apparently to the satisfaction of all, by such prestigious personalities as Monroe's housekeeper and a bunch of out-of-work FBI stooges. Let's ask Monroe herself... oh, that's right, she's dead now, too. How wonderfully convenient. You'd think the liberal-controlled press would be more a little more reverent about their own real, Hollywood and non-fictional-type martyrs... but we got the "Bush Dynasty" to pick on now... Damn liberals, sabotaging our boy George in the press like that...

I know --- let's blame all those assassinations on the mob again, shall we? But, not much press about the mob lately either, unless you count the ratings on the Sopranos. Of course, we all know by the ongoing press blackout that the mob never really even existed, did they? ... except when we need another patsy for the JFK assassination, which we still do, since nobody but Gerald frickin' Posner and Bill Clinton will really cop to that old J. Edgar Hoover manufactured bullshit about Oswald anymore. Mr. Ruby, see if you can get Lee Oswald to shut the Hell up, and quit claiming that he's a patsy, willya, since he's obviously not going to be patriotic enough to take the fall for us...

Better still, let's dig up the ghost of E. Howard Hunt, and turn that son of a bitch over to some of our Mideastern pals for a little of that good old patriotic torture/interrogation...
